The area where the Le Conte's sparrow has been sighted on the Wilna Unit of
the Rappahannock River Valley NWR will be temporarily closed from Monday,
Jan 24 through Friday, Jan 28.  A winter grassland bird research project
has been scheduled in the grasslands adjacent to this area (before the
LeConte's showed up!).  You can still visit the Wilna tract and you can
still walk close enough to view the fields where this bird has been seen
and where the study is in progress, you just won't be able to walk down the
path toward the little pond.    We are concerned that additional flushing
of birds will skew the study's results.  A sign will be placed at the edge
of the closed area.  Unless weather causes the study to be postponed, that
area will reopen Jan 29.  We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause
birders.
