I went to see the hummers this morning at about 7:30 AM and for the first
half hour or so two birds chased each other, fed together on the Salvia and
perched in the low trees nearby. One bird was quite rufous on the flanks,
suggesting a Rufous/Allen while the other did not show much color in that
area. I am no expert on hummingbirds so these are just my impressions which
I hope someone with more knowlege and experience can confirm or refute, what
ever the case. While I was there only two other birders and a few tourists
were present. I pointed the two hummers out to the tourist explaining that
they were not typical of this area. Also notes was a Ruby-crowned Kinglet.
As it "warmed up" a bit with the Sun the supposed Black chinned Hummer
stopped appearing but the other bird remained until I left about 10:00 AM.
