VA Birders,
The latest issue of North American Birds, with a Swallow-tailed Kite on
the cover, just arrived, and it reminded me I had forgotten to post this
note. It is for all of you who saw the wonderful Swallow-tailed Kite at the
Marriott Ranch in western Fauquier Co. in August.
When I posted the information about the kite, I omitted the name of the
person who reported it to me because she and her family were about to leave
town on vacation, and I didn't think it was appropriate to mention that on VA
Bird. Now she has returned from vacation and so have I, and she has given me
permission to post her name and e-mail address so that you can send her a
thank you note.
Shannon Cate is the person who discovered the kite at the Marriott Ranch,
where she and her family are now living. Her husband is the ranch manager,
and of course the staff was great too--even putting up a "Swallow-tailed Kite
Parking" sign for us! Because Shannon is fairly new to our area, she didn't
know whom to contact, but she persevered until she got my name and contacted
me so she could share this wonderful bird with other birders.
You can send your thank you notes to Shannon at <slcate@xxxxxxx>. Please
be sure to give your full name and where you live (city or county and state)
when you write her, as I think she would be interested to see from how far
away people came to see this bird.
