VA Birders,
My wife, Lynda, and I found a Swainson's Warbler on the Nature Drive of the
Breaks park today. For those of you coming to the VSO event the bird was about
500 feet past the wooden steps where Laurel Branch Trail crosses Nature Drive.
Normally stopping on Nature Drive is not permitted, but I got permission from
the park superintendent for us to park on it this week-end as long as we do not
block the roadway. The same area could be accessed by hiking the Cold Spring
Trail , then turning left onto Laurel Branch Trail. Hiking on Nature Drive is
also permitted. The two hikes that will cover that area are the Cold Spring
Trail hike and the Birding by Car through the park.
We first heard the bird singing only part of its song, then saw it in the
Rhododendron near the edge of the roadway.
Good Birding this coming weekend,
