Paul and others on VA BIRD,
I think you hit the nail on the head. The question of security concerns are
obviously relevant to the movement of US Naval vessels. The CBBT islands are
natural platforms for potential illegal activities. BUT, so are fishing boats
co-located next to these islands. It is not logical to enforce a ban on one
location and not the other, esp. given that there is no current or past
evidence of problems. But, clearly, it is easier to control access to the
islands than to make changes to the patterns of thousands of fishermen.
Only the responses of thousands of birders and nature lovers will gain the
attention of the decision makers. Please make your thoughts known to those in
charge as well as our Governor and federal legislators. In particular,
Virginia Sen. Warner is a very influential politician on Capitol Hill with a
history of listening to his constituents.
