Greetings all,
Reston Association, Fairfax Audubon Society, and The Bird Feeder in Reston
sponsored this morning's walk at Sunrise Valley Park in Reston with a short
side trip to Runnymede Park in Herndon.
Hightlights: At Sunrise Valley Park in Reston:
GREAT CRESTED FLYCATCHER
BROWN THRASHER (several)
WILLOW FLYCATCHER (flying back and forth on the south
side of the pond)
Family of KILLDEERS
YELLOW WARBLER (spotted on the south side of the pond)
YELLOW BILLED CUCKOO (a strong probable--seen by just a
few in the group, but
accurately described)
KINGFISHER and GREEN HERON flying over
At Runnymede Park in Herndon:
YELLOW CROWNED NIGHT HERON on nest
(2) sub-adult RED SHOULDERED HAWKS perched on branches
very near their nest.
YELLOW BILLED CUCKOO (heard)
ACADIAN FLYCATCHER (heard)
Jay and Carol Hadlock, Herndon, VA, along with Carolyn Badilla, Reston, and her
son John Carl visiting from South Carolina co-led the walk.
