I finally managed to do a bit of birding today, and stopped by Sunrise
Valley Park in Reston at about 3pm.
The Red-necked Grebe invasion is pretty widespread. There was one at
the park when I got there. Along with two Hooded Mergansers. I've been
going to this park for a while and have never seen either of these there
before.
I saw:
American Robin
Belted Kingfisher (two chasing each other)
Blue Jay
Canada Goose
Carolina Wren
Dark-eyd Junco
Eastern Phoebe
Eastern Towhee
European Starling
Fox Sparrow
Hooded Merganser
Mallard
Mourning Dove
Northern Cardinal
Northern Flicker
Northern Mockingbird
Red-necked Grebe
Red-shouldered Hawk
Red-tailed Hawk
Red-winged Blackbird
Rusty Blackbird
Song Sparrow
Yellow-rumped Warbler
I managed to get a few pictures of the Grebe and the Mergansers. The
merg pictures are a bit fuzzy, but the Grebe came out pretty nicely.
