Hello all
Yesterday Pat & I decided to go over to Bath County to Lake Moomaw & the
Gathright Dam area to see what species of waterfowl were around . We started
out at the Dam area first & then onto Lake Moomaw . As far as waterfowl we had
a small number of species but we had some high counts for a couple of waterfowl
for this time of year . The land birds were far in between because of the rain
& wind . They were hunkered down , waiting out the storm .Below is a list of
waterfowl at these two places in Bath County.
Gathright Dam --- This covers the dam & ponds near the Dam .
Pied -- billed Grebe -- 11
Horned Grebe -- 1
Canada Goose -- 79
Gadwall -- 13
American Black Duck -- 33
Mallard -- 27
Ring -- necked Duck -- 196
Hooded Merganser -- 8
Ruddy Duck -- 1
Bald Eagle -- 3 Two were Imm.
Coot -- 1 --- This is the only one seen the whole day .
Lake Moomaw
Common Loon -- 11
Pied -- Billed Grebe -- 9
Great Blue Heron -- 1
Hooded Merganser -- 1
Bonaparte's Gull -- 8
On our way back home we stopped off in the Swoope area of Augusta County . Here
is what we found .
Smith's
Great Blue Heron -- 1
Canada Goose -- 9
Gadwall --3
Mallard -- 67
Black Duck -- 37
Green -- winged Teal -- 20 +
Boy Scouts Camp
Pied -- Billed Grebe -- 1
D C Cormorant -- 3
Black Duck -- 3
Mallard -- 5
