We enjoyed another great afternoon of raptor hunting north of Winchester.
Along the first 2 mile stretch alone, we found 12 Red-tailed, 2 Kestrels, 2
Red-shouldered, 2 Harriers, and 1 Rough-legged.
Total for the day:
Harrier - 4
Red-shouldered - 5
Red-tailed - 23
ROUGH-LEGGED - 1 (Sue Heath's bird from yesterday)
Kestrel - 6
SHORT-EARED OWL - 5 (hunting near each other at 3:15)
I managed to get a few decent photos of a SEOW roosting on the ground. They
were very active. I assume they couldn't hunt much last night because of the
sleet and icing and were making up for that today. While the previous sightings
of these birds were on private property nearby, the spot today was right along
a public road and they were easily visible from there.
