Enjoyed a nice Sunday morning walk along the Fredericksburg Canal path =
from Washington Avenue down to the Rapahhannock River and back. The birds =
were out and singing loudly. It was a gorgeous spring day. Along with =
the usual suspects (43 total species), including Cardinals everywhere =
(counted 62+), I had a Canal Path first Horned Grebe on the pond behind =
the CVS store on Route 1. I also counted 6 Eastern Phobes, 3 Tree =
Swallows, 4 Golden-crowned and 1 Ruby-crowned Kinglets, a brief visit by a =
flock of 19 Rusty Blackbirds eyed suspiciously by the resident Black-winged=
Blackbirds, 1 Osprey, and 4 Red-tailed Hawks soaring high (on the move) =
together. There were also 9 Double-crested Cormorants along the Rappahanno=
ck river, the first of the many (cormorantsand herons) that arrive =
(together with the fishermen) with the shad and herring runs.
