Birders,
The BBBC went birding today at Stumpy Lake Golf Course in Virginia Beach. The
young have hatched in the Red-tails nest. One fuzzy head could easily be seen
sticking out of the nest. When the parent bird returned and flew near the
nest I thought I could make out TWO young calling from the nest. Later the
adult
went to a near by tree to rest....or...so it thought. The jays found it pretty
quick and dive-bombed the preening bird repeatedly. Warblers were fairly
quiet but we did manage some good looks at Prothonatory. We were able to
observe a
couple of Wood Ducks on the right side of the entrance flying over the lake.
Later we went to First Landing. Warblers were a bit more plentiful there
(Prothonotary, Parula, Pine, Yellow and Common Yellowthroat). We were pleased
to
come up with 56 species in the first hot humid day of spring.
