I wonder if this could be a plumage variation... although I've never seen
it on a junco, I've been watching a Mourning Dove in my yard all weekend
long that looks like it has makeup on - both its cheeks are bright white.

OK, I give up. I'm looking out my back window in Annandale, and there is a
bird at one of my feeders that looks like a dark junco, light thick bill,
etc... except it has white cheek patches and a white border on the outer
edges of its wings.
Anyone have a suggestion for me?
