I spent some time at Staunton River Battlefield SP in Halifax/Charlotte
counties today and I was able to come up with a few birds. Sightings
included Great Blue Heron, Wood Duck, American Kestrel, Belted
Kingfisher, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Downy
Woodpecker, Hairy Woodpecker, Northern Flicker, Pileated Woodpecker,
Eastern Phoebe, Golden-crowned Kinglet, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Eastern
Bluebird, Brown Thrasher, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Chipping Sparrow, Field
Sparrow, Vesper Sparrow (1), Savannah Sparrow, Song Sparrow, Swamp
Sparrow, White-throated Sparrow, Dark-eyed Junco and Eastern Meadowlark.
Noteworthy in the mammal department was the sighting of 2 River Otters.
