Greeting to all:
Made a quick trip to Staunton River Battlefield State Park in Halifax Co today
01/12/05 to look for ducks.
The most numerous seen were Ring-necked Ducks and only a few Gadwall.
After watching for about a half hour, I was joined by Mike Stinson of Lynchburg.
We soon saw an adult Bald Eagle and a Northern Harrier.
After Mike left for home, I saw an adult Great Blue Heron at 1705 hrs carrying
a stick for nesting material.
At 1755 hrs, I called up an Eastern Screech-owl and then heard a Woodcock.
This spring like weather is great for now but I know that winter is returning
soon.
