[va-bird] Squirrel eating bird.

I looked out of my kitchen window while fixing dinner last night and wondered 
what a squirrel was eating.  Looked as if it had eaten the head off a bird so I 
got out my binos and yes, there it was eating, from the head down, a house 
sparrow as if it was an ice cream on a stick.
I assume it found a dead bird.  Has anyone else seen this?  Is is usual? It was 
gross,
