[va-bird] Re: Southern Ocean ... formerly Completely off topic, but...

I casually follow worldwide racing in big boats (Whitbread, ...). Those folks 
have been talking about the Southern Ocean for years. Lying
at latitudes below the land masses of S. America, Africa, and Australia, winds 
have an uninterrupted sweep around the globe. This leads,
they say, to the worst waves and combined with the cold, the most dreaded 
sailing conditions on Earth. It would be interesting to know
what the ocean travelling birds think of these conditions and how they cope.
