Due to my emergency shelter job responsibilities, I couldn't get out to
College Creek, at the "big bend" of the James River, where seabirds have been
deposited previously on several tropical storms, until 5 p.m. today, September
1st. But I was able to stay for a couple of hours until it was almost dark.
The highlights included 7 Sooty Terns (1 imm), 100+ Black Terns, 100+ Eastern
Kingbirds, Common, Forster's and Royal terns and 50+ unidentified distant
small white terns. There were lots of distant peeps and a Willet, which is
good
for around here.
Since birds were around so late, I'll check the area out at first light
tomorrow. It's still raining here, at 9 p.m.....9+ inches already.
