Just returned from a PA trip to visit my sister and her family. On the way
home, I took a slight detour to see a Snowy Owl in Shippensburg, PA. It's been
at a truck stop off I-81, so if anyone out west on that corridor wants to try
for it, it's just off exit 29. Heading north, take exit 29 - at the top of the
ramp, you will take a right and an immediate right (basically a U-turn) and go
back to Pharoh's truck stop (less than 1/4 of a mile). Pass the first
entrance, and go round the bend to the second entrance. Make your way to the
middle
of the parking lot, away from heavy traffic, and find a place to park. When I
saw the bird, it was on the south end of the lot. You will see what looks to be
a "graveyard" for trucks. At 11:15a today, the owl was hunkered down on top
of an old tanker truck...it flew off to the east edge of the lot and perched on
top of a blue bldg.
It's been there for a while, 2-3 weeks...Rich Rieger
