Birders,
Thurs. afternoon was magical at Dyke Marsh. The snow covered the black river
mud and the sunlight lit the reeds golden against a blue sky. The snow again
aplified all sounds and masses of ducks were feeding next to the ice which
extended 10-30 yds. from the bank.
The trail has been well trampled by skiis, snow shoes and feet, both man and
dog. The snow is just right depth on the boardwalk to rest comfortably by the
rails without falling off.
Late in the day a beaver swam rite up to the deck, then over to the island.
The coots moved en mass at sunset and flights of geese arrived for the nite.
