VA Birders,
During the night we had 3 inches of wet snow here on Compton Mt. This morning
the birds were mobbing the feeders. Take a look at this black oil sunflower
tube feeder with 25 finches trying to get at the food.

The feeder was full about an hour before the photo was taken.
There were other birds at the nyger, millet and cracked corn feeders. In all
there were
80 goldfinches
12 Brown-headed Cowbirds (10 males, 2 females)
4 Blue Jays
2 Carolina Chickadees
4 Dark-eyed Juncos (one singing)
2 Downy Woodpeckers (females)
1 Eastern Towhee (male)
12 House Finches (about equal number both sexes)
2 Mourning Doves
7 Northern Cardinals (5 males, 2 females)
1 Purple Finch (juvenile male/female)
1 Red-bellied Woodpecker (female)
3 Red-winged Blackbirds (males)
2 Song Sparrows
1 Tufted Titmouse
1 White-breasted Nuthatch (male)
1 White-throated Sparrow
2 Chipping Sparrows
