[va-bird] Snow Bunting at Lake Anna

Posted for Mike Boatwright:

Yesterday, Dec 19, at around 3:15 PM I observed a single SNOW BUNTING at Lake Anna, Louisa Co, VA. The bird was feeding along the sandy shore in the area where this species has been observed numerous times over the last 20 or so years. The bird was seen on the beach at Pleasant's Point at the end of Rt 1030 which can be reached by following Rt 622 (from Rt 652) to the t-intersection with Rt 701 and turning left on 701 then proceeding for less than a mile and turning left on Rt 1030.

Other birds around the lake included the usual suspects a handful of C. Loon, Horned and Pied-billed Grebe, and circa 1500 gulls, 90% of which were Ringers with maybe 70 Great Black-backeds and the a balance of Herring. There was also a single Lesser Black-backed in the flock.

Cheers,

Mike
