Birders,
Well, I guess the Broadwings are coming to a close. It's been great while
it lasted, but
today we had puny numbers. The winds were westerly, temps rose to nearly
70, skies
blank blue in the morning, but clouding up nicely when we called it a day.
The
watch was covered from 8:45 to 2?30 bird time, and Jen Folts was there
helping
shoulder the burden (birden?). Visitors were Bob Blakeny, Ralph Wall, John
Bear
and Chris Liggett, a former pilot with young sharp eyes.
The birds:
Osprey - 5
Bald Eagle - 2 (both adults)
Sharpies - 8
Cooper's - 2
Red-shouldered - 1
Broadwing - 29
Red-tailed -14
Unidentified - 4
TOTAL - 65
Non-raptors of interest were a Belted Kingfisher and a couple of skeins of
waterfowl, one
of which I saw and identified as DC Cormorants.
