[va-bird] Sky Meadows SP, Fauquier Co., Oct. 22

Hello, birders.

Another fun and sparrow-y day on the E side of the
park, with 10 species seen, incl. LINCOLN'S and
WHITE-CROWNED. Watched 2 LOGGERHEAD SHRIKES, too.
Day started off cold and m. cloudy, turned sunny, mild
and windy. Third weekend in a row here, productive
birding each time. Highlights today:

- Pied-billed Grebe, 1 continues on the fishing pond.

- Some migrant raptors noted - No. Harrier,
Sharp-shinned, Cooper's and Red-shouldered Hawks.
Also present were Am. Kestrel, Red-tailed Hawk and
both vultures.

- Loggerhead Shrike - heard one, then found it to the
E of the duck ponds along a fence line, toward the
woods. It was soon joined by another. One or both
vocalized in a leafless bush and each performed some
sort of tail display while hopping around
(aggression?) at the other.

- Tree Swallow, 2 flocks of about 30 each in early
morning, heading S. A few more later in the day that
seemed to be feeding.

- Gr. Catbird, 1 - on the late side

- Am. Pipit, 3

- sparrows - E. Towhee, Chipping, Field, Savannah,
Song (most common), Lincoln's (only 2, near duck
ponds), Swamp, Wh.-throated, Wh.-crowned (6, all
imm.), D.e. Junco

Other migrant species similar to those of the past
couple of weeks here.

I'll be back twice next weekend, leading a bird walk
each day.
