[va-bird] Sky Meadows SP, Fauquier Co.; July 22

Hello, birders.

I birded the Shearman's Mill Trail (E side of park, behind barn), checked out
the fishing pond and looked for shrikes (none found) on the Meadow Trail at Sky
Meadows today. I also tried to note birds during my scheduled butterfly walk
in late morning in the Walnut Grove and Vis. Center areas. It never threatened
rain, which was a relief.

A CLIFF SWALLOW was mixed in with a flock of BARN SWALLOWS (26) at the fishing
pond. The Barns perched on the gravel driveway and phone wires, as well
feeding over the fields. A few TREE SWALLOWS are still hanging around, with 4
immatures and 2 adults. Maybe they are the same ones from the now empty nest
box that I noted last weekend. WILLOW FLYCATCHERS along the Meadow Trail and
RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS in a couple of places round out the most interesting
birds present during my trip today.

Lots of mammals, incl. 1 or 2 Red Foxes, a Raccoon and a Beaver. The
butterflying was good, too, considering that skies were mostly cloudy.
