Hello, birders.
I had a nice variety of migrants and other birds today
(Sat.) at Sky Meadows SP, esp. considering it's only
early April. I walked from the contact station to the
Visitor Center. I walked the Gap Run and Snowden
Trails, too. Spring wildflowers and butterflies
further brightened the day. Some birds listed below:
-All 7 woodpeckers
-Brown Creeper
-Winter Wren
the previous 2 sp. were sprinkled throughout the
woods, 14 of each!
-both kinglets, mostly R.c.
-B.g. Gnatcatcher, 1
-Hermit Thrush, singing, distant
-Am. Robin, maybe 100 in a few flocks
-Gr. Catbird, 1
-B. Thrasher, 5
-Palm Warbler, (probable, poor look, race unknown), 2
-La. Waterthrush, 1 near the intersection of the No.
Ridge and Gap Run Trails. Upstream from where I
usually are
-Sparrows, 8 sp.
Towhee, Chipping (est. 15+), Field, Vesper,
Savannah, Song, Swamp, Junco (50 or so). Most of
the sparrows were at the top of the hill at the bend
in the road before the Visitor Center.
Big misses, Yellow-rumped Warbler and (probably)
White-throated Sparrow
