Belated post from February 18, 2005. Discovered messages were not getting
through.
Made it out to Route 617 off of Rt. 15 in Louisa County this
evening. Although a bit on the cold side (35 degrees), the wind was within
tolerable range.
Tonight a total of five Short-eared Owls made an appearance, some coming in
close to the observers standing alongside the road. At one point we had
four in same field of view. Viewing through spotting scope we managed a
quick glimpse of one perched on distant post.
Observers included John Pitts and his father, Dr. and Mrs. Mitchell Byrd
and Linda.
