Greetings to all:
At Staunton River State Park on 09/25/05 there was a large flock of
shorebirds but most were just too far out to id most of the time.
However at one time a flock of 70 Pectorial Sandpipers flew in a landed on a
nearby sandbar in the Staunton River.
Other birds seen were as follows:
Black-bellied Plover - 2
Killdeer 30
Sanderling - 5
small peeps - 5
Great Blue Heron - 15
Great Egret - 50 ( a high count)
D C Cormorant - 6
Bald Eagle - 3 (1subadult with a white head but still with a dark tail and 2
immatures)
Osprey - 1
Red-tailed Hawk - 1
I looked for the White Pelican but did not see it today.
