I stopped by Greenfield Pond near Daleville, Botetourt County this morning
(Mon.). The pond remains partially drained, exposing nice mudflats and
migrating
shorebirds continue to take advantage of this new feeding area. Present today
were 15 Spotted Sandpipers, 6 Lesser Yellowlegs, 37 Solitary Sandpipers, 3
Least Sandpipers, 14 Killdeer, and 1 Wilson's Snipe. Other recent shorebird
sightings at Greenfield include Pectoral Sandpiper, Semipalmated Sandpiper,
Semipalmated Plover, and Greater Yellowlegs.
