VA Birders,
Today, just before sunset, my wife, who was in another room, called for me to
come quickly. I rushed in just in time to look out the window and see a "snow"
shower of dove feathers floating softly to the ground not far from our seed
feeders. A few feet away on the ground a female Sharp-shinned was finishing off
the dove. It then began to pick the feathers off before having its meal.
My wife had looked up from the computer just in time to see the hawk make
contact with the dove only 6 or 8 feet from the window.
I watched the Sharpie with binos for the next 20 minutes or so as it consumed
its meal. It then glided silently into the nearby woods.
Enjoy the birds,
