The Allen's/Rufous Hummingbird, a young male, has spent all day every day for
the past 3 days here at the house (9 Randolph Ave., Cape Charles); anyone is
welcome to visit and photograph and study the bird. The tail feathers appear
a little bit worn, so I don't think I'll go out on a limb to identify the
bird. Jon Dunn has seen it on several occasions and thinks it's probably a
Rufous. A bander may visit to confirm or deny that, as it were. Other yard
birds today were 3 Pine Siskins, 2 Red-breasted Nuthatches, a Blackpoll
Warbler,
a Pine Warbler, and a Black-throated Green Warbler. One of the CCB staff
located an Oregon Junco at the southernmost point of Kiptopeke State Park 3
days
ago, a a rare subspecies group in Virginia.
