Hello all
This morning I went out to the possible G B Heron " rookery " where I met up
with Harry & Beth Lumadue & Brenda Tekin . Brenda was going to show me where a
possible nest is in one of the trees . All along while we were out there we
kept hearing a couple of birds singing that sounded like young Dickcissel's
learning their song . We even played the tape of Dickcissel & these birds
sounded close to the tape. These birds would never show themselves. After about
an hour later I noticed a small bird on the fence wire . It was singing & it
turned out to be a Sedge Wren & the other bird was close by in the field near
where we were standing . Something in the back of my mind all along the song
was not right . But I had Dickcessel on the brain & that's all I heard . I
asked Beth to play the tape of Sedge Wren & it was a dead ringer . Brenda got a
few photos of one bird . Hopefully they will come out .
These birds were first noted by me on the 22nd & they are still there .
Directions -- from I 81 go South to exit 220 & take Rt. 262 to Middlebrook Road
( Rt. 252 ) . Turn left onto Rt 252 & take it into the small town of
Middlebrook -- turn right onto Rt. 876 Mish Barn Road follow it to the
intersection of Rt. 876 & 602 . Here at this intersection on your right you
will see a large birck home that is empty & in front of you will be a barn --
turn right here & a short distance from this house & barn ( less than 1 tenth
of a mile ) is an open field -- look back towards the barn & you will see a
couple of fence rows . The very first fence row is the one to check out near
the back where a gate is . Good luck & happy birding to you all .
