This evening at about 5:30 p.m. I observed a very white looking bird in a
wild cherry tree shading my barn. Initial inspection with binocs brought a
sigh, another mocking bird. Because it was so white in the bright evening
sun,
I took another closer look and decided that it was a pretty unusual looking
mocker. Brought my scope out onto the deck and realized on closer inspection
that it was a scissor-tailed flycatcher. I was able to observe for about 15
minutes as it sat on a branch and preened. It opened it's wings so that I
could see the pinkish orange under the wings and it flaired its tails so that
I
could get great looks at the forked tail.
I have been very excited about this observation and think it is only the
second one for Campbell County.
Maybe it will return tomorrow !
