Hola,
While driving to Snickers Gap this morning along Route 17 in Fauquier County
north of Warrenton a few miles, I found a dead hatch-year Northern Saw-whet
Owl that had no band on it's leg. It was in fairly good shape still.
Surprisingly, as I was driving along Route 601 from Ashby to Snickers Gap, I
found
another dead saw-whet at a spot on the road where I wasn't able to stop. I
don't know which county it was in, as the line is a mystery to me up there.
At Snickers Gap, aside from a modest hawk flight, there were lots of finches
in the air, most unidentified though a few flocks of Purple Finches were
calling as they went by. I did have one siskin call from a flock of about ten
birds that were otherwise silent. Best bird up there was a Yellow-billed
Cuckoo that flew north across the road.
Cheers,
Todd
