Last week I banded owls at Highland Retreat on Monday,
Wednesday, and Friday nights (11, 13, and 15 November).
Numbers continue to be low compared to last year. On those
respective nights I banded 7, 4, and 2 saw-whets. Unlike at
Lynchburg, it didn't begin raining on Friday night until I was closing
the nets at midnight. However, I believe that the impending rain
probably kept our numbers down somewhat that night.
This week I will band tonight (Monday, 18 Nov) and Wednesday,
and possibly Thursday or Sunday nights. If numbers pick up this
week (as I am expecting they might), I will probably band one or
both of those latter nights as well. However, check with me before
you drive all the way out there.
