[va-bird] Saving Bull Run Post Office Rd.

Many of you have been to BRPO Rd. (near Manassas Battlefield) to see the
short-eared owls and hear the whip-poor-wills, or to tick the occasional
rarity like Harris's sparrow or northern shrike. Many of us have noticed
with trepidation the McMansions springing up nearby and assumed that this
wonderful area will soon be lost. Shaking off such fatalism, I decided to
see if there was any way to prevent this from happening. After not much help
from the Fairfax County Park Authority, I contacted the Northern Virginia
Conservation Trust. Paul Gilbert said he would see what he could find out
about the property. The most important thing at this point is to identify
the owners of the relevant properties, and try to find a contact with them so
that they can be approached with something other than a cold call or letter
to see if they might be interested in setting up a conservation easement, or
selling the property to the County. If anyone has any information that might
be helpful in this regard, please let me know.

This may be a long shot, but this is unique habitat in Fairfax County, and is
worth trying to preserve.
