[va-bird] Sandwich Terns & typos

With the arrival of the "Bermuda High" parked over the coast has come the
first volley of Sandwich Terns, right on schedule, yesterday at Cape Charles
Beach, where about 8 were present. Though it's possible to see a few Sandwich
Terns in May and early June around Virginia Beach and the barrier islands, most
birds we get in Virginia are post-nesting wanderers or failed breeders from the
Carolina colonies. Their numbers should build through September, with good
numbers usually still around in late September and sometimes early October. A
good place to see Sandwich Terns is from the pier/jetty at the mouth of Cape
Charles harbor, at the Mason Ave./Bay Ave. intersection. Black Skimmers have
also been fairly common here since early May, usually seen early and late in
the day.

In the most recent issue of the RAVEN, a long article on the records of
seabirds in Virginia as a result of hurricanes 1996-1999 has some errors in the
Tables. Specifically, the initials "RLA, CM" have been erroneously added on as
o
bservers in Table 3 (lines 5, 8), Table 4 (line 5), and Table 5 (lines 1, 2,
3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, 16). This must have been an error introduced at
the printers. There is no observer "CM", and the observer "RLA" (Bob Anderson)
is correctly listed otherwise. Hopefully, the next issue will contain an
Errata section at the end with these corrections.
