My sister-in law and husband (long time birders) are in town on their way
to Indonesia and we birded several places in Charlottesville today. Around 2:00
at River Park off Chesapeake Street we saw an adult Sandhill Crane flying
over the park itself. It circled in large circles several times gaining height
and disappeared to the north. We watched it for about 10-15 minutes. Also the
Blue Gray Gnatcatcher in my back yard has hatched its eggs and is busily
feeding
the babies in that incredible lichen encrusted volcano looking nest they
make. And the Tree Swallow babies in the Martin house(had the house 12 years,
have
had 7 species nest in it, but never Purple Martins) are starting to poke
their heads out of the nest hole and be curious about the world.
