[va-bird] Sandhill Crane - still there

I found the crane this morning at 6:30. It was on the SW edge of the pond where
described by others (the inlet end).

I only stayed for 15 minutes, but while there, the bird called 3 times. It
stayed in the same spot all the while I was there.

Also heard were the reported Savannah Sparrows, Blue Grosbeaks, Grasshopper
Sparrows, as well as Bobwhite and a seen-only female
Bobolink.

For those still interested in going, I think this bird will stick around - it
seems to have found a home. For a lone, lost Sandhill,
it is ideal habitat.

As for directions, although I took my own way, I think Matt Orsie's advice is
the best. Take Exit 220 off I 81; follow Hwy 262 to
the 252 intersection - turn Left;
watch for 693 that goes left, but stay on it 1/4 mile or so until it goes
Right; follow 693 until you see a sign for Hebron Rd (or
the BSA sign) - this is 703; go straight thru Hebron and stay on 703 until you
get to the Swoope Post Office (on your right) -
about 1 mile before you get to Swoope, you'll drive across a RR overpass.
that's also a good spot to look and listen; 3/8 Mile past
the post Office, turn Left onto 706; 706 eventually blends into 705; as you are
going uphill on 705, watch for the pond downhill to
the left - it's right as the road turns right and there is ample room to park
on the east side of the corner. The "white house" is
at the top of the hill to your south.

My thanks to all who reported, and especially Allen and Pat for pointing me to
a new VA bird.
