[va-bird] Saltville VA Rookery NOT Gone (ERROR)

VA Birders:

A followup this evening on the Great Blue Heron rookery at Saltville, VA.
finds the nests in place and birds on the nest. The earlier report that the
sixteen nest were gone was in error.

Let's go birding....

> VA Birders,
> I just received an e-mail from Helen Barbrow of Saltville that the entire
sixteen nest Great Blue Heron colony at Saltville is gone, the nests as well
as the birds.
> From what I have read Great Blues are sensitive to human or eagle
disturbance, and that they will move the colony if they are disturbed,
especially by construction, etc. closer than 325 yards of the rookery.
>
> In my post on May 14 I noted that I saw one bird carrying nesting material
to the mountainside above the road on the opposite side of the river from
the rookery. Perhaps that is the new location of the colony.
>
> The photos taken on the 14th. may be the last ones of the rookery at its
former location.
