A group of hopeful birders along Montressor Road near sunset on Sunday was
not disappointed. Just about on cue (6:10 PM), 5-6 short-eared owls came
fluttering out of the dusk, practically over our heads.
One perched on a post next to the greenish box-like contraption in the grass
field opposite Montressor Farm. Particularly exciting for me was hearing their
squeaky "wheezy" vocalization for the first time. (An occasional asthmatic, I
thought the wheeze was me at first, but took a deep breath and confirmed it
was the SEOWs!)
