My wife & I walked some of my neighbors' farm fields earlier today
searching for Loggerhead Shrikes in areas they frequented just a few
years ago (through 2003). While we didn't find any shrikes we were
excited to find a small flock of Rusty Blackbirds (about a dozen
birds). We also, inadvertently flushed a single Wilson's Snipe in one
neighbor's pasture & three more and several Killdeer in a wet area
close to Ebenezer Church Rd. I'm always astounded by how noisy a
small group of Killdeer (in this case 5) can be when they want to be.
The raptors observed included an immature Cooper's, a Red-tail, a
heard Red-shoulder, and a female Kestrel.
The area we walked in is only a couple of miles from Bluemont & Snicker's Gap.
