Today (May 25) Mike Iwanik and I made a run to the coast and back. We started
at Craney Island where we got good looks at a female RED-NECKED PHALAROPE in
breeding plumage. Then we ran up to Chincoteague where we were joined by
Ron and Liz Darnell. We failed to relocate the RUFF(though we
diligently searched for about 4 hrs.)but did find a WHITE-FACED IBIS
loosely associating with 15 GLOSSY IBIS and a sub-adult WHITE IBIS.
All three ibis were in Snow Goose Pool across from where the bike
trail from Black Duck Marsh meets the Wildlife Loop.
Other birds of note were a single BLACK-NECKED STILT and
3 MARBLED GODWIT on the north side of the causeway. The stilt
was seen about half way along "billboard row" and the godwits
were a little farther west of there. We also had a
WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER south of the Wildlife Loop just before
it turns north.
Good Birding,
