VA Birders:
Val Kitchens, who is still incommunicado on the Eastern Shore, asked me to
report that the Ruff was refound yesterday (Saturday) between 3:30 and 4 pm.
The bird was once again in the southwest quadrant of Snow Goose Pool - about a
quarter of the way around the wildlife loop. It was at times within 100 feet
of the road and in perfect light. The bird was seen by about 20 participants
in a Northern Virginia Bird Club trip led by Val and Stephen Eccles (who ID'd
the bird). It was a lifer for me, and probably most of the other participants.
The bird had a fairly dark rusty head and neck transitioning to dark blotches
midway down the breast. It had no apparent ruff. It's foraging behavior was
animated suggesting (to me) a yellowlegs.
