VA Birders,
I went to look for the Shrike at Montessor Road north of Leesburg this
morning with no luck. However, as I was driving around on the same road I saw
something hovering in a field to the east about half a mile north of where the
Shrike had been spotted. I thought to myself that this had to be an RL Hawk.
The bird landed and I was able to get great looks in my scope as it sat in a
small tree. It appeared to be a juvemile bird with a very light head. It
also had a dark belly, feathers down to its feet, and a generally stocky look
to it. It was still sitting there when I left.
