Today, Diane Holsinger and I saw a dark morph rough-legged hawk near "Leonard's
Pond" on Rte. 678 in Rockingham County, VA. At about 09:00 the hawk was
perched in the grove of black locust trees in the pasture on the south side of
Route 678, opposite the pond. When we returned to area around 10:30, we
weren't able to relocate the rough-legged hawk. Other birds observed along
Route 678 included 2 red-tailed hawks, 50 horned larks and 3 purple finches.
