A great day for Christmas raptors!
We spent the afternoon driving southern Frederick Co. We were particularly
searching for Harriers, but also to see what else was around. The single
Harrier confirmed my suspicion that there just aren't many around this year.
Highlite of the day was our first-of-the-season Rough-legged Hawk - a beautiful
light-phase.
For putting on less than 90 miles, I thought we did pretty well:
Northern Harrier - 1 "Gray Ghost"
Red-shouldered Hawk - 1
Red-tailed Hawk - 34 (conservatively - might have been 36)
Rough-legged Hawk - 1 (just south of Belle Grove Mansion)
Kestrel - 6
Raven - 2
All in all, a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!
