[va-bird] Rockfish Gap Hawk Watch 30th Year Celebration - Holiday for Hawks

YOUâRE INVITED TO A SPECIAL WEEKEND EVENT
HOLIDAY FOR HAWKS
Rockfish Gap Hawk Watch
Celebrating 30 Years of Hawk Watching â 1976-2006
September 22-24, 2006

Dear Hawk Watching Friends,

This upcoming fall season marks another milestone in the history of
counting migrating raptors at Rockfish Gap that began in 1976. Our 30th season
will officially begin on Saturday, August 12 and will continue through Sunday,
November 19, 2006.

On a sad note, Myriam Moore, the founding mother of Rockfish Gap Hawk
Watch, passed away in January of this year. Although her name is now but a
memory, her soaring spirit will continue to dwell among those of us who share
her love and passion for hawk watching.

Gordy Adamski and I have been working to come up with what we hope will
exceed the well received and very successful 25th celebration held in 2001.
This yearâs weekend event will be held September 22-24, 2006 on the grounds
of The Inn at Afton. In addition to our favorite fall activity--hawk
watching--the planned activities will include:

â Early morning bird walk around The Inn
â Dedication of Virginia Birding & Wildlife Trail marker
â Butterfly & Dragonfly ID workshop with Bruce Grimes & Clyde Kessler
â Special displays and vendors
â Book signing with local author and naturalist Marlene Condon
â Anniversary Banquet Dinner with very special program presented by Shawn
Carey of Migration Productions

The total cost of $30 ($28 for spouse/guest) covers registration,
cash-bar reception, and banquet dinner with very special program. Special
thanks go to the Augusta, Monticello and Rockingham Bird Clubs and The Inn at
Afton, for without their generous contribution the price would be much higher.

Details and registration form can be obtained by clicking on

                                                                Rockfish Gap
Hawk Watch, Waynesboro, VA

In Memory of Myriam Moore â 1913-2006
âEveryone who turns out for a hawkwatch is to be commended; it is not easy to
pull away from oneâs daily commitments, and do all that is entailed in
arriving at the watch site! Too great, perhaps to be pleased and gratified
with anything less than huge flights. But every lovely little kettle is indeed
a marvelous gift of Mother Nature, and worth the effort of turning out to
observe!â -- Myriam Moore, 1999
