Last Friday (23 Feb), my wife and I saw a golden eagle in northwest
Rockbridge county (Junction of Pisgah Rd and High Rock Rd). This is the
second we have seen this year. The first was in north east Rockbridge
County, near Vesuvius. Based on plumage (subadult), there is a strong
possibility this was the same individual. Golden Eagles are regular in
winter in Bath and Highland County to our west, but not here in
Rockbridge.
A late report also of a Peregrine Falcon (adult?) in Rockbridge County
on 6 Feb (Brownsburg Turnpike and Raphine Road intersection).
