[va-bird] Roanoke Scissor-tailed flycatcher

Some of you have heard about this already, but it's been confirmed that a
scissor-tailed flycatcher has been hanging around Countryside Golf Course in
Roanoke since at least early June. It was photographed by a new birder,
Kevin Bingham, whose property adjoins the course. Today I spoke with
Marilyn Bussey at Countryside, and she got us the o.k. to go onto the course
and look for the bird. If you go, you must check in at the clubhouse first.
And if you want to look for it by cart, you'll have to rent one for $9. It
has been seen most frequently along the fairway between holes #5 and #7.

From I-581, take the Hershberger West exit to Cove Road, make a right, go
one mile, and the golf course is on the right.

Barry Kinzie also reports that with a scope he was able to see the bird from
Laurel Ridge Rd. which is beside the 6th green. He believes the bird is
either a female or possibly an older immature male.

It was something of an ordeal getting permission to go on the course, so
please be respectful of the rules as they've been laid out. And be careful
not to get in the way of any golfers.
