Hello VA-Birders,
I have been checking out Roaches Run Waterfowl Sanctuary in Arlington the past
couple of weeks. Not a lot going on there as yet, but I noticed that 22 HOODED
MERGANSERS showed up since last week. There are also 3-4 PIED-BILLED GREBES
there, and lots of gulls at low tide. There was a PEREGRINE FALCON and an
OSPREY there last week as well, but not today.
On another note, a Tropical Kingbird is being seen in eastern NC about 60 miles
south of the VA border, if anyone near the border is interested in taking a
trip down there. Here is what was mentioned on the NC RBA from today:
"A TROPICAL KINGBIRD was located near Lake Phelps in eastern NC on Nov. 21.
Look around the Tyson Grain elevators at the beginning of the road that goes to
the west end of the lake. DeLorme map lists the road as Keep Rd."
Take Care,
Jay Keller,
Arlington
